Beijing Dongsi Urban Infill

The Dongsi Station urban-infill project covers a site of about 53,000 m² of total floor area,

dense with metro ancillary facilities.

Above them rise seven distinctive courtyard buildings,

their exteriors clad in kiln-transmuted terracotta brick — each piece unique.

These bricks carry natural variations in color,

like the mottled traces left on the gray hutong walls through the long river of time.

The rough yet authentic texture of the brick conveys the warmth of old Beijing.

Seen from afar, the cluster blends harmoniously with the surrounding neighborhood.

Simple, rustic pitched roofs paired with gray kiln-transmuted brick let the city’s historical fabric endure,

as if softly recounting stories of the past — a unique beauty where tradition and modernity intertwine.
